On Halloween, we'd been in our house for THREE years. Three years isn't that long- unless you're us. If you are us, then it's the longest you've ever lived in one location. I know. How do we do it? Why do we do it? I'm not sure. But I do know that this house is so totally "us" and I love it here. I know we probably won't be here forever but I sure am enjoying living here more than anywhere we've ever been. So, anyway, the house was custom built for us which meant I got to choose EVERYTHING. That part was amazingly, fabulously fun. I'd do it again in a second. : ) When we built the house, I chose the yummiest barn red for the family room/kitchen area. With the black trim it was so elegant. It was deep and rich and just very relaxing. But after three years, I was done with it. I wanted green. A yummy, olivey, almost guacamole green. Finding the "right" green can be quite a trick though. Green is made of yellow and blue and so depending on how much of each color you have it can be "warm" or "cool". I knew I wanted a "warm green" but I didn't want it TOO yellow and it had to be just right. For some reason (see post below!) Scott was in a very pleasant mood this weekend and decided he loved me enough to paint the family room/kitchen for me. This is no small thing, people. The man loathes painting. I can't think of anything he dislikes more so it is the ultimate "I love you" when he will paint. So, I ran off to Home Depot to pick up the paint and supplies before he changed his mind. I chose the paint off a chip in the store. No trial runs, no samples, just a whole gallon and the paint stick and tray and all the other accouterments of the painting trade. I had him paint just the wall with the three little windows in it- just in case I totally hated it. We both loved it and he spent the better part of Friday night and all day Saturday cutting in and painting around all the little nook and crannies that this room had to offer- and trust me, it had plenty of them to offer. : ) I love the "fresh" feeling it has. It's still warm and cozy but it's also fun and friendly without being totally out of sync with the rest of the house. You should come over for dinner and check it out. It really is amazing....

Kelly - oh my gosh, this is the green I've been searching for!! I just decided to nix my original plan of chocolate and blue and make it chocolate and green and cream in our family room... I'm a green fanatic... but what color is this? Do you remember? This is perfect! It looks absolutely gorgeous!! :) You did good!!

I'm usually a lover of RED but I really like the green you went with. You are right about green being tricky. My kitchen is painted green and it took forever to find one we liked. Can you share the name of your color?
Your home is beautiful!

It turned out so nice, Kelly. You truly do have a knack for color. I am in desperate need of your services. You must travel to DC one of these days. And I love your faucet. I think I need a new faucet. See what you started!! ;)
