I'm posting early today! :) It's been a full day and I'm heading to the basement to work on the longarm but since I can't show you those projects for a while yet I thought I'd go ahead with what I can show. :) I woke up this morning and wandered into my studio and a big smile spread across my face. I'm in love with the changes I've made. The Ikea light fixture has been tempting me for a while and I broke down and bought it while we were in Minneapolis last weekend. Garrett (world's best son in law) came over last night and hung it for me.
I had him hang it so that I can see it framed in the arch of the doorway when I'm sitting at my "real desk" pretending to do "real work". (read: I can see it when I'm surfing the net and trying to fool my husband into thinking I'm working!) I liked the Pottery Barn light we hung several months ago but I'd come to the conclusion that I was never going to make time to do all the little tags and pieces that it needed to be a truly cool piece and this light was inexpensive and it really makes a fun statement in the room. Done. I also took a few "closer" pictures of my cabinet. It's just sheer perfection.
I am SO glad I didn't resist the pull to this piece. It's got a few blank spots in it and several people have commented that they think I'll have problems pulling out the fabric to use it. I assure you, I won't! Unlike scrapbooking where there was always a little piece of me that wanted to hold on to my favorites, Fabric somehow begs me to pull it out and sew it up into something. And since a lot of those things "live" in my home, I get to keep enjoying them. I don't even have to pull a photo album down to do it. :)
I also managed to finish up my 3x6 block that I started last week and needed a little more yellow dot fabric to finish. It's now happily hanging with the rest of my 3x6 blocks. I'm not sure if I'm ready to do a quilt with them yet or if I want to do the same colors for the 4th quarter and have more blocks for a bigger quilt. I'll have to decide soon though since It's almost 4th quarter time!
Took a litte time and whipped up my Mug Rug swap piece today, also. It's tiny at about 6"x8". That's a pretty small canvas if you're looking to get creative but I think my little piece turned out nicely and I'm hoping my partner will like it. I really enjoy doing these smaller quick swaps.
Tomorrow, I'll be on the longarm all day with more stuff I can't show you yet. But maybe I'll get up to the studio and work on a few things there too. I hope so.
Tip of the day- Never get so hung up on how much you love a fabric that you won't cut into it and make something. In the making, you'll get to enjoy it and if it's staying at your home you'll get to enjoy it again and again as you live with it. If it's not staying, just know that there is always more fabric coming and you'll probably find something on your next trip to the local quilt store that you can't live without. If you're honest with yourself, you know I'm right. Right? :)

WOW I love it, you have done an amazing job with this display. This is what I love about your blog Kelly it's so visually inspiring.Glad to hear you are not worried about digging into your stash, & having to replace it will give the display a new look.( Hey there is another good excuse to buy more fabric in case you needed one :0 )

That light fixture is to die for! I have always been one of those people who buys gorgeous fabric and pulls it out for every idea I have, but never cuts into it. This week, I finally cut into some of them and I'm really glad I did! I made some wonderful items for the craft show this weekend :)
